Wow! I made it to Part 3 of my goals for 2013!
If you missed Part 1 where I introduce the whole idea of the series (and why I chose to do a series rather than one long post), go here or Part 2 where I talk about my personal and family goals, go here.
So in Part 3, I will cover Craft (doesn’t everyone have a craft goal?), Organization (because there are tons of ideas on Pinterest) and Business goals.
Craft:
- Learn to use this darn Silhouette Cameo machine
- Finish decorating the house with all of my new found craft ideas
For Mother’s Day 2012, I asked for and got a Silhouette Cameo. I worked hard trying to find the right software and tutorials to figure out how it works. I ended up getting sooo frustrated that I just stopped messing with it and didn’t come back to it for 3 months! Finally I decided that I WAS going to learn how to use it because I wanted to learn to cut vinyl. I love all those signs that you see on Pinterest with the funny quotes. So I started messing around with it a bit and finally got it to work…about 1/2 the time. So in 2013 I’d like to up it to working 90% of the time. I’d love to use it to make this project…or this project with subway art…or maybe even this one!
Organization:
- Continue to follow The Fly Lady’s cleaning schedule
- Schedule errands and appointments during the afternoons
- Use a calendar and/or blog planner (have you checked out this one that I have my eye on?) to keep track of everything
I’ve been kind of inconsistent with following the Fly Lady’s cleaning schedule and I’d like to do a better job of that. (Lately I’ve been banning myself from my blog until the dishes are done or the laundry folded…it’s worked so far.)
Along with a cleaning schedule goes a regular schedule for us during the day. I think you get used to having small babies and not being able to go any where in the afternoons because of naps, but my kids haven’t napped in about a year (maybe this is the reason I get NOTHING done and need a schedule?). But now that we are homeschooling, the boys really aren’t cooperative and at their best in the afternoons. We really need to focus on work and reading in the mornings and go out and play in the afternoons.
Someone commented to me yesterday that they were tired just hearing what all I’ve been up to…they couldn’t imagine actually doing it! So I really need to keep a calendar and use the system to be my most productive and get it all done. I tend to focus on the “favorite” activity of the day and forget the rest (hence the cleaning schedule).
Business:
- Grow this blog, Play 2Learn with Sarah to have 25K+ page views each month with 500+ unique visitors and make enough money to cover the cost of running it
- Grow a second blog called Once Upon a Book Review where I review children’s literature, link to book activities and discuss popular book club books
- Move most of my other businesses to solely being online and a part of this blog
Learning to be a blogger is a lot more complicated that just setting up a blog and typing in semi-funny stories. I’d love to learn how to become a professional blogger/writer and focus all of my other businesses here and being solely online. With the new baby coming, I’m not going to be able to leave the house as much or even talk on the phone (not that that ever happens without a child screaming and a dog barking in the background.) So focusing on an online business is just what works for my family right now and I’d like to learn how to do a good job of it. (Also it’s really fun to have people like what you’ve written…one day I WILL be pinned!)
