In celebration of Mother’s Day, I thought I’d try to find something that your child could make and give to you…or any mother figure in their lives.
On one of my favorite sites for finding activities, Hands On As We Grow, I found watercolor coffee filter flowers. It looks minimally messy so I thought, “Why not?”
First put some water in an ice cube tray. Then use food coloring to make different colors. Give the kids paint brushes and coffee filters on a paper plate or cookie sheet. Here I will admit that I didn’t have any red food coloring, so I used icing gel. Now we all have red hands! Wonder how long that’ll last?
We painted our coffee filters with paint but just dipping the coffee filters in the different colors worked too…and led to the red fingers. Then I cut up a grocery bag and set the coffee filters on there to dry. While we were waiting for them to dry, we looked around for some pipe cleaners to make the stems, but we didn’t have any. So we improvised! We pulled out some of the clothes pins from the other day and painted them green. Then when everything was dry, we folded up the coffee filters to make our bouquet!
Have fun!
