preschool-activitiesYou can’t miss when you take your kids to the zoo!

Here in the central TX area, we either have to go to the Cameron Park Zoo in Waco or the San Antonio Zoo to see some real wild animals. But when your kids like animals as much as mine (and that’s A LOT), then you need to find something a little closer than a 3 hr round trip.

This year we decided to get annual passes to the Capital of TX Zoo in Bastrop (only an hour round trip for us). It’s really more of an animal rescue center, but they have large animals that you don’t typically get to see in Pflugerville…so it fits the bill.

This week the zoo announced that on Tuesday, May 22nd, they had a baby zebra born. I knew my kids would flip out over this news so we decided to take a trip this Capital-of-TX-Zoo.jpgmorning to welcome him. We got lucky and the whole family of zebras was close to the fence..sometimes they hang out in the woods where you really can’t see them. The new baby just hung out with his mommy the whole time and looked very cute.

Actually the little zoo has lots of babies. This time we saw a baby prairie dog and a baby monkey, as well as the nose of a baby Wallaby sticking out from it’s mommy’s pouch. Last month when we went, the ringed tail lemur had twins hanging on her. The zoo is small, but the animals seem to be very happy there.

So, if you’re in the central TX region, go check out the Capital of TX Zoo (I will warn you, it’s a bit past the middle of no where.) and you won’t be disappointed!
