If you’ve ever been to Central Texas, or know anyone who lives here, chances are you’ve heard of Cedar Fever.

It’s not a real fever, but an allergic reaction to the pollen of the mountain cedar tree (aka juniper ashei). Go here for a pretty funny take on it. The author claims it makes you a Texan to survive it.

Although I have many allergies (and I spend months miserable with them) cedar fever is not one I am blessed with…but my husband is.

He spends most of the month of January coughing, sneezing and sniffling – like many other Central Texans – with little relief.

I thought I’d do a little research to see if there are any home remedies for cedar fever symptoms and I came up with 7!

7 Home Remedies for Cedar Fever Symptoms | Play 2 Learn with Sarah

1. Daily Sinus Rinses – Most sites I looked at suggested that you use a netipot to do daily (maybe even twice daily) sinus rinses to wash the pollen from your nose.

2. Diffuse Essential Oil Allergy Relief Combination – By diffusing lavender, lemon and peppermint essential oils in your room while you sleep, you can help to fight off some of the symptoms.

3. Stay Inside – This one seems kind of obvious, but try and spend as little time as possible outside. Don’t open the windows in your house or car either.

4. Take Vitamin D3 Drops – Vitamin D3 helps to boost your immunity and they are starting to question if it may have an effect on allergies.  I say it can’t hurt…most humans are vit D deficient these days.

5. Allergy Drops – There are some people that claim that allergy drops help them control their cedar fever symptoms.

6. Shower at Night – By showering before you go to bed, you are rinsing off all the pollen that may have accumulated on your skin and hair before you go to sleep. Not being able to breathe and therefore not sleeping well are a major complaint of allergy sufferers, so taking this extra precaution seems like a reasonable idea.

7. Gargle with Go Gargle! – Most allergy sufferers complain of a sore throat due to drainage (gross). Go Gargle! sent us a tube of their fast acting salt tablets so when my husband came home snuffling and sneezing I pulled it out. They are super easy to use, just plop the salt tablet into 1 cup of warm water, let it dissolve and gargle. It’s fast acting and he said it did relieve his throat pain temporarily. Here’s a $1 off coupon if you’d like to give it a try.

To help relieve your cedar fever (or just a normal winter cold) Go Gargle! has generously offered to give 1 lucky reader their own Go Gargle! Kit (1 tube of product + $20 CVS gc). Be sure to follow the directions below:
