Mmm, apple cider vinegar. It’s great in homemade salad dressings and barbecue sauce, but could there be more to this condiment?

While you may not have given it much though, ACV is actually an incredibly healthy addition to your diet. Many people drink a glass of water mixed with ACV to help with everything from weight loss to stomach issues. Let’s take a closer look at the uses for apple cider vinegar.

7 Unconventional Uses for Apple Cider Vinegar

Uses for Apple Cider Vinegar

Sooth the Stomach

Those suffering from stomach troubles can benefit from mixing apple cider vinegar with fresh ginger, lemon juice, sparkling water, and honey. This drink can help both nausea and stomach pain. ACV has even been used to treat ulcers. If you have problems with indigestion, try mixing one teaspoon of ACV with one teaspoon of honey and a glass of warm water. Drink the mixture 30 minutes before eating a meal that you know may upset your stomach.

Detox

If you enjoy a hot bath, try adding apple cider vinegar, Epsom salts, and lavender oil to your next bath. The combination can help you detox. The Epsom salts will also help sooth aching muscles and the lavender oil will make everything smell wonderful and also help to sooth the mind. Try adding ½ to 1 cup of vinegar to your bath.

Beat Exercise Fatigue

After a good workout, lactic acid can build up and cause muscle aches and fatigue. Apple cider vinegar is a great remedy due to its amino acids. Try drinking a glass of water mixed with a tablespoon of vinegar after your workout.

Nip a Sore Throat in the Bud

The next time you feel a sore throat coming on, gargle a mixture of ¼ cup ACV and ¼ cup warm water every hour. The vinegar is so acidic that the germs can’t thrive.

Lower Cholesterol

More studies still need to be done, but in Japan it was found that people who had a half ounce of apple cider vinegar each day lowered their cholesterol.

Relieve Congestion

Apple cider vinegar does a double whammy on congestion. Not only does the potassium in the vinegar help thin mucus, but the acetic acid also kills germs. Drink a glass of water mixed with a teaspoon of vinegar whenever you’re congested.

Weight Loss

Last, but not least, apple cider vinegar is one of the easiest things you can add to your weight loss regimen. Not only does it suppress the appetite, but it can boost metabolism and reduce water retention. It’s another great reason to drink a glass of water mixed with a teaspoon of ACV each day.

Apple cider vinegar has so many great uses. If you can’t stand the taste of the vinegar, you can also find it in capsule form. Either way, this can be a wonderful inclusion to your daily diet.
