The second book in my Book-a-Week Challenge is called A Shade of Vampire.
I actually read and reviewed the first book in this series a few months ago. You can read my review here.
So I thought I’d read the second book, A Shade Of Blood.
I totally LOVED the first book, but book 2 took me a while to get into. Again, I think that if I’d had more time to sit down and read and get (and stay) connected to the characters I might have gotten into it sooner.
The first book is about a girl named Sophia who is abducted and taken to a secret vampire island. The prince of the island, Derek, falls for her and protects her. Sophia discovers, towards the end, that her best friend, Ben, had also been abducted, but had a much different experience on the island than she did.
Sophia decides that she and Ben should go back home and Derek grudgingly agrees….and that’s where book 1 ends.
Book 2 picks up with Sophia and Ben on the beach where they were abducted.
This book spends a lot of time talking about their relationship and how Ben, finally, wants a relationship with Sophia, now that she’s hooked on Derek. They try to reintegrate into their old lives and have a relationship, but it just never seems to feel right to Sophia.
Then Vivenne, Derek’s vampire twin sister, visits Sophia and begs her to go back to the island and help save Derek from himself.
For me, this was when I got hooked on book 2. I like the vampire island and the relationship between Derek and Sophia. I also liked some of the twists that Bella, the author, introduced in book 2.
I was totally surprised, and a little pissed, when it just stopped! I’d finally gotten into the book and figuring out some of the pieces of this new twist and BAM…the end!
So now I can’t wait for book 3, A Castle of Sand, to be released later this month and then book 4, A Shadow of Light, in July/August.
You can sign up for updates about Bella’s upcoming books here.
