Where is this blog going? Does it have any real direction? This question has really stumped me in the last week. I really enjoy having a blog, but I sometimes feel like I know just enough about how the whole system works to be dangerous. (My blog was severely messed up this summer and I had no idea why, but I asked the right person and now it’s all better.)
There are thousands of blogs out there, but I want to spend the next year studying what makes them successful and how I can bring those ideas here to Play 2 Learn to make this a place that people want to be. I’ve redesigned the blog a few times in the 9 months or so that I’ve had it. I began by focusing mainly on children’s activities, but I found out fast that that limited my target audience and also limited what I could write about. So I added a few craft projects I was working on, but still I wasn’t doing a good job of posting and getting it out there.
As you may have noticed, I’ve redesigned again (well, kind of). I want the blog to be a place that I would go for ideas. So I thought about the things that I look for on the internet, and asked some friends to share things they look for in blogs. Here’s what I came up with: activities to do with kids (the title of the blog is Play 2 Learn), recipes/food, crafts, around the house projects and what’s going on in my crazy life. Eventually I’d like to offer reviews and giveaways too. My husband and I had a “discussion” about all of these topics being in one place. He argued that I wasn’t focused enough. I argued that too focused doesn’t work (remember I tried that) and that “all the mommy bloggers are doing it.” Luckily it’s my blog (or as I’m sure he thinks of it…another crazy idea Sarah has come up with) either way, I get to do what I want!
Please sign up for updates so that you can see if I can actually make a go of this (I’ll explain my plan of attack in another post) so you don’t miss watching me go down this road. Also…please leave comments and let me know what you like (and let’s be honest…my ego is still a little too fragile to hear what you don’t.)
So…let’s get this blog started!
