The Whale Song
The Whale Song by Dyan Sheldon is an amazing story of a little girl and her almost encounter with whales while staying with her grandmother. But the real beauty of this book is it’s images. Illustrator Gary Blythe did an absolutely amazing job. I’ve had this book for years and every time I open it, I am amazed all over again by the vivid images. They seem so real.
Book Activities
1. Whale Crafts – ArtistsHelpingChildren.org has collected tons of fun whale crafts for kids.
2. Humpback Whale Paper Plate Craft – This paper plate craft is amazing. Also check out some of the other paper plate crafts while you’re here.
3. Writing Activity – Have your child draw a picture of the gift he/she would give the whales. Then ask her/him to write 2 sentences explaining why they chose that.
