This is my fifth children’s book activities post in our new #BookaDayinMay Instagram Challenge that I’m doing with my blogging buddies at CarrieElle.com and RockaByeParents.com.
Amazing Grace
Amazing Grace by Mary Hoffman is about a little girl named Grace who loves stories. She especially loves to act them out. One day Grace’s teacher tells them that they are going to do the play Peter Pan and asks who wants to be Peter. Of course, Grace does, but her classmates give her lots of reasons why she can’t. Her grandmother decides to take her to ballet starring a young girl from their neighborhood to show Grace that she can be anything she wants. Grace goes back to school on Monday and…guess what happens?
Book Activities
1. Writing Activity – Ask your child to draw a picture of what they want to be when they grow up. Then have them write a sentence or two (or dictate it to you) to go along with it.
2. Reader’s Theater -Reader’s Theater is a great way to develop fluency. Print out the Peter Pan script and have each person in the family take a part (and maybe the neighbors too since there are 11 parts) and practice the lines. Once everyone is comfortable with their lines, you can act it out (with scripts of course).
3. Field Trip – Take a trip to the local community playhouse or children’s theater to give the kids the experience of seeing a live play.
