This is my thirteenth children’s book activities post in our new #BookaDayinMay Instagram Challenge that I’m doing with my blogging buddies at CarrieElle.com and RockaByeParents.com.
Betsy Who Cried Wolf
Betsy Who Cried Wolf by Gail Carson Levine is a twist on the traditional story of The Boy Who Cried Wolf.
Betsy is ready to take on the responsibilities of tending her own flock, but a crazy wolf has some plans of his own. The story starts out very similar to the traditional version where she cries wolf, the townspeople come and there’s no wolf. But by the third time, Betsy decides she’s going to confront this wolf and take matters into her own hands.
Book Activities
1. Text-to-Text Connections – An important skill good readers have is the ability to compare and contrast different texts. Read the traditional version of the story The Boy Who Cried Wolf, and talk about the similarities and differences between the two texts. If your child is ready, you can also print out this venn diagram and use it to write the similarities and differences.
2. Writing Activity – Ask your child what he/she would do to protect their “sheep” from the wolf. have them draw a picture and then write (or dictate) two sentences describing their picture.
3. Sheep Craft – Have your child make their own flock of sheep by choosing one of these sheep crafts.
