This is my thirty-first (and last) children’s book activities post in our #BookaDayinMay Instagram Challenge that I’m doing with my blogging buddies at CarrieElle.com and RockaByeParents.com.
Dear Mrs. LaRue
Dear Mrs. LaRue: Letters From Obedience School by Mark Teague is the the first in a series of LaRue books that are amazingly funny and told from the perspective of the family dog.
Ike, the family dog, gets sent to obedience school. He proceeds to send a series of letters home to try and convince them to come get him. The illustrations in this book are equally as important to the story as the words. Ike’s letters tell part of the story and the illustrations tell the other part. You will find this one really creative and want to immediately go out and find the rest of the LaRue books.
Book Activities
1. Paper Plate Dog – Make your own Ike with these fun paper plate craft directions.
2. Writing Activity – This story is a great one for talking about perspective. Have your child write a letter from a pets perspective.
3. Art Activity – Have your child draw a WANTED poster for IKE after he escaped from obedience school. make sure to talk to them about how to describe him so that people will know him when they see him.
