This is my twenty-third children’s book activities post in our #BookaDayinMay Instagram Challenge that I’m doing with my blogging buddies at CarrieElle.com and RockaByeParents.com.
Over in the Garden
Over in the Garden by Jennifer Ward is a super cute book. It’s a counting book. There’s a rhyme on each page telling you what bugs, and how many, to look for. And if you look closely, you’ll also be able to see what the next insect will be.
At the back there are “Fun Facts” about each animal and it’s a perfect intro into creepy crawlies for for the 8 and under crowd.
Book Activities
1. Bug Hunt – Take a jar or container and put a small stick and a few pieces of grass in it. Then go out into the woods or your back yard and see what bugs you can find. Find different ways to classify them.
2. Bug Printable Pack – My favorite go to site for printables for 2-7 yr olds has a bug pack, of course!
3. Bug Fossils – Here’s a fun activity from No Time for Flashcards using play doh and those creepy little fake bugs.
Bug Books
Check out yesterday’s book, Tomas and the Library Lady, and tomorrow’s book, Bear Gets Scared.
