This is my twenty-fifth children’s book activities post in our #BookaDayinMay Instagram Challenge that I’m doing with my blogging buddies at CarrieElle.com and RockaByeParents.com.
The Great Kapok Tree
The Great Kapok Tree by Lynne Cherry is a classic staple in all elementary school classrooms as the perfect intro to rain forest studies.
In this story a man goes into the Amazon rainforest and attempts to cut down a tree. It’s such hard work that he stops to rest and falls asleep. While he’s sleeping the animals that live in the tree come down to visit him and plead their case for why he should not cut the tree down.
Book Activities
1. Coloring Pages – I found a site that has rainforest coloring pages. If you scroll down a bit on the page you can find other coloring pages too.
2. Rainforest Game – First Grade A la Carte created a fun game to go along with the book and made it free for everyone!
3. Rainforest Lapbook – Homeschool Share has some great printables to help you and your kids create a lapbook to help cement the ideas from the book.
