Lest week I posted about Five in a Row activities. I gave you my weekly planning sheet for 18 different books from Volume 1 of FIAR.
I decided that it would be MUCH more helpful to also give you some book activities for each week in case you needed more.
And since it’s Fall I thought I’d start with apples and the book How to Make an Apple Pie and See the World.
How to Make and Apple Pie and See the World
This is a cute story about a little girl who wants to make an apple pie, but needs to run to the store to get the ingredients first. When she gets to the store, it’s closed. So she decides to travel the world to find the ingredients in their natural environment.
Make an Apple Pie – It’s a great story for discussing steps you have to take to make something…since they include the apple pie recipe at the end of the book. You could have a fun time planning out what you need, making a list and going to the store together to purchase your items.
Apple Tasting – It’s also a great way to discuss apples and all the different kinds of apples there are in the world (and Fall is the perfect time for my absolute favorite kind…Honey Crisp!)
Map Studies – The little girl travels the world to find the ingredients. This is a perfect way to help your child understand the map and what a small world we actually live in.
World for Learning has a great set of printables to go along with the book…apple tasting and mapping.
Also if making a whole apple pie is a bit overwhelming, I have a super easy and super yummy mini apple pie recipe. We did this when we read the story the last time.
Here’s a video of someone reading the book:
