This is my thirtieth children’s book activities post in our #BookaDayinMay Instagram Challenge that I’m doing with my blogging buddies at CarrieElle.com and RockaByeParents.com.
Pete the Cat and His Four Groovy Buttons
Pete the Cat and His Four Groovy Buttons by Eric Litwin and James Dean is a great book for the Pre-K – Early Elementary crowd.
Pete is one cool cat. One day, while wearing his favorite shirt, one of the buttons popped off. But Pete doesn’t cry – goodness no. He just keeps singing his song. And guess what? Another button pops off. (Get the picture?)
These Pete the Cat books have a fun rhythm and usually work on a small skill (colors, numbers) while getting the point across to just keep on singing when bad things happen.
Book Activities
1. Make Your Own Pete – Make Learning Fun has a cute Pete printable where you can color him and his buttons then cut them out and glue them on him.
2. Do-a-Dot Pete – Make Learning Fun also has some fun Pete the Cat pages that she says to use magnets on, but that would be great Do-A-Dot pages. Print one out for each number of buttons and then use the Do-a-Dot Markers to color it in.
3. Letter Game – First Grade A La Carte has a name the letter game with a race to your button. If your child is ready for that, great. If they’re beyond letter names, have them give you the sound for each letter or a word that starts with that letter (or even a bit harder and they have to give you a word that starts with that letter from a specific catergory i.e. – a vegetable that starts with p!)
