This is my ninth children’s book activities post in our new #BookaDayinMay Instagram Challenge that I’m doing with my blogging buddies at CarrieElle.com and RockaByeParents.com.
The Relatives Came
The Relatives Came by Cynthia Rylant is a sweet book about a family reunion. The story is told from the point of view of the child who the relatives are coming to visit. They talk about all the hugging and talking that goes on, plus how different sleeping is when you have relatives a visit and how much you miss them once they’re gone. This is the perfect book to read before summer travels.
Book Activities
1. Text to Self Connections – As you read this story with your child, stop periodically and say, “This reminds me of a time when…” modeling how to make connections between books and ourselves.
2. Writing Activity – Have your child draw a picture of a time they did something with a member or members of their extended family. Ask them to write a sentence or describing wheat they did.
3. Family Pack – UpsideDownHomeschooling.com has an All About My Family pack to help you create your family and write about each person.
