This is my third children’s book activities post in our new #BookaDayinMay Instagram Challenge that I’m doing with my blogging buddies at CarrieElle.com and RockaByeParents.com.
The Wolf’s Chicken Stew
The Wolf’s Chicken Stew by Keiko Kasza is a really cute book that is perfect for the 2nd grade and under crowd.
One day the wolf saw a chicken walking and thought that she’d make a great stew. Then he figured that if he fattened her up a bit, she’d make an even better stew. So for three days he makes her 100 each of different fattening treats and delivers them anonymously to her door. On the fourth day he goes to peek to see how fat she’s gotten and he gets quite a surprise.
This book is perfect for making predicitions. Be sure to stop often and ask your child what he/she thinks will happen next. Sometimes they’ll be right and sometimes…
Book Activities
1. Writing Activity – Ask you child to draw 100 things the wolf might make next to try and fatten the chicken up. Then have them write one or two sentences telling about their picture.
2. Chicken Hunt – Someone on Pinterest posted this picture of how they had written the numbers 1-100 on little chicks and hid them. (You can find a free printable of the chicks on Primary Inspiration.) Then the kids had to find them and put them in order. It’s a great “game” that gets the kids moving and having fun while learning at the same time.
3. 100 Things – Give your child a gallon sized baggie and have him/her collect 100 items in it (they must all fit in the baggie).
