This is my eleventh children’s book activities post in our new #BookaDayinMay Instagram Challenge that I’m doing with my blogging buddies at CarrieElle.com and RockaByeParents.com.
You Are Special
You Are Special by Max Lucado teaches a great lesson about not worrying what other people think of you.
Punchinello lives in the Wemmick village where each day they walk around and give each other yellow star stickers if they think you look pretty or do a good job or gray circle stickers if not. Poor Punchinello tries hard, but is covered in gray dots. One day he meets another Wemmick who has no stickers on her at all and when others try to put stickers on her – they fall off. She tells him how she’s doing it, but he has to be brave enough to do it.
Book Activities
1. Writing Activity – Have your child draw a picture of themselves. Then have write (or dictate) two sentences about what makes them special.
2. Family Book – Have your child draw a picture of everyone in the family and write (or dictate) what’s special about each person.
3. Social Skills Role Play – Brain storm with your child different ways they can react when someone says mean things to them. Then act them out first with your child saying hurtful things to you and watching how you react and then with you saying (mildly) hurtful things to them and practicing the reaction you’d discussed.
