Monstrous Beauty

Monstrous Beauty

There are some seriously awesome YA (young adult) books out there these days and this one ranks right up there with the best.

I LOVE anything with a paranormal twist and Monstrous Beauty has mermaids, ghosts and an ancient curse making it an automatic win in my book.

The story is a bit confusing at first because it bounces back and forth between present day and the late 1800s. And…when you are listening to a book (like I prefer to do) it can be a bit confusing at first.

But, by chapter 5, I had gotten it all figured out and was completely sucked in by the romance and mystery happening in both time periods.

From ElizabethFama.com:

In 1872, mermaid Syrenka falls in love with a young naturalist. When she abandons her life underwater for a chance at happiness on land, she is unaware that this decision comes with horrific and deadly consequences.

One hundred thirty years later, seventeen-year-old Hester meets a mysterious stranger and feels drawn to him in a way she can’t explain or resist. For generations, love and death have been inextricably linked for the women in her family. Is it an undiagnosed genetic defect . . . or a curse? Hester’s investigation of her family’s strange, sad history leads her to the graveyard, the crypt, and the bottom of the ocean—but powerful forces will do anything to keep her from uncovering her connection to Syrenka and to the tragedy of so long ago.

As the story builds in each time period, you can start to see how the two are connected. You begin to see what Hester cannot…how the past has become part of her daily life and how she is the only one who can set things right.

This was one of those books that when you finish it, you wish there was more and you still have questions. I cared about Hester and I wanted to know what happened to her after this after adventure.

One lucky reader will get to experience this marvelous adventure too and will receive 1 audio/CD copy of Monstrous Beauty. Be sure and follow the direction in the giveaway to be qualified to win.
