My kids and I love animals…I mean we would have TONS of them if we could. So about a year ago I started looking to see what other houses were around…since our house on a golf course with a fairly strict HOA was not going to let us keep chickens and goats. Don’t get me wrong…I loved the house, just not the location.
My husband works downtown Austin so we could go pretty much anywhere in the surrounding area, but our kids go to a charter school up North of town and keeping them in their school was a big priority…which left us with two houses on a county road about 3 exits up from our current house.
Both houses had 5 acres, but one was HUGE and had a lot to die for with gorgeous trees while the other was flat and overgrown and 1000 sq ft smaller than our house.
Of course we went for the bigger one…and quickly learned that it was an absolute money pit so we backed out and went with the smaller one.
We’ve been in about a week now and are still adjusting to the tighter quarters, but we’re definitely enjoying the new house too. We haven’t totally moved in yet because we’re waiting for a rental house we own to close so we can have the funds to have all the flooring changed in the new house.
So while we wait for that we’ve been working on the outside of the house….
We bought a John Deere riding mower and between the two of us have mowed all 5.5 acres.
We had an encounter with a rattlesnake on our second morning here…we won.
We got 3 baby chickens and 3 baby guinea fowl.
We got two adult chickens which we named Juniper and Cinnamon.
We got a baby goat named Buttercup.
Oh and the Tooth Fairy came to visit!
It’s been a busy week!
I promise I’ll keep you updated on what’s going on on “the farm”…and if you have any ideas for what we should name “the farm” leave me a comment!
