Bill Martin JR is one of the all time best author/illustrators of children’s books.
When I saw that he had been chosen for the September Virtual Book Club for Kids…I was really excited, but also a little lost…there are so many great books with so many ideas of activities to do…I got a little stuck because I couldn’t decide which to choose.
So I went to Google to help me!
Chicka Chicka Boom Boom
I typed in Chicka Chicka Boom Boom activities (a perfect book for early in the school year) and it came back with a ton of stuff…but one little worksheet from First Grade A La Cart struck me as the perfect pre-school/Kindergarten activity. (click the image to visit her site for the free printable)
Chicka Chicka Boom Boom is a fun alphabet book that is the perfect book to start talking about letters and do some matching activities.
The Activity
This activity is easy to set up and has kept my kids busy for a long time…plus they have gone back to it often.
I just printed out the activity sheet and traced it with markers to give it some color.
I found some magnetic alphabet letters and a cheap cookie sheet from the dollar store.
I taped the worksheet onto the cookie sheet and wah-lah…you have a fun letter matching activity.
If you have lower case magnetic letters then this is a simple match activity.
But you could also use upper case letters when your child is ready to move on to upper/lower case matching.
This could also be used on long car trip since it’s magnetic and letters won’t fall off as easily.
What’s your favorite Bill Martin Jr book?
