When I decided to pull Connor out of preschool and home school him, I was a little worried about how I would get everything covered that I wanted to cover. I’ve taught tons of kids to read, but could I teach my OWN kids?

One of the first things I did was join the Homeschool Buyers Co-op. This is an awesome place where each month they post different deals on curriculum. (I also got 3 sets of Legos for the price of 1 before Christmas so there are tons of other deals too!)

I know that Connor is majorly motivated by the iPad and by computer games so I wanted to find a program that could help him work on his sight words, get more consistent with phonics and work on putting it all together into reading.

I tried out a number of programs, but eventually decided that Click N Kids was the best choice in phonics programs for us.

There are 100 lessons that are designed for kids in PK – 3rd grade. The lessons get progressively harder. I admit I did have a little trouble finding the right starting point for Connor because it starts off with basic letter sounds and then moves on to blends etc. I think we ended up starting at lesson 30 which I didn’t mind because there are still plenty of lessons for him to work through. Even Evan (age 3) was able to get started with the lessons starting at number 1…with a little help…and he’s getting really good at learning the letter sounds.

Each lesson takes 10-15 minutes and starts with letter sounds and goes all the way through putting them together to read words and sentences. There’s a “test” at the end of each lesson and then a report so you know how they’re doing.

The best part is that Click N Kids is only $19.95 for a Lifetime License!

We have been using this for 2 months and I still highly recommend it. I think that it’s really helping Connor to become a better reader.
