When we brought Maddi home, I started using lavender oil on her feet each night before bed to help her relax and settle in. Not only was the smell awesome, but the calming properties really helped her.
Then when she had her surgeries, I used lavender in her room to help calm and comfort her. Plus I hoped that the smell would remind her of her room.
As our struggles with her health, and mine, have continued, I’ve discovered that I have more and more daily uses for essential oils.
Daily Uses for Essential Oils
These are the ways that I’ve found that we use essential oils daily in our household. I hope that some of them will work for you too.
Calming – I put a drop or two of lavender in my palm and rub my hands together. Then I put them on the bottom of the kids’ feet (mostly just Maddi because 6 year old feet are getting stinky) before bed to help them calm down and rest. I also will use it on Maddi when she’s having one of her 2 yr old melt downs. Totally works!
Pain Management – I put a drop of peppermint oil on my neck when I have a headache from sleeping wrong. You can put it on your temples too…just be sure not to get too close to your eyes or it will sting. I also rub a drop on Maddi’s belly when she has a belly ache. I also put it on the bottom of her feet too for pain management.
Allergies – I diffuse 4 drops of lemon oil, peppermint oil and lavender oil in my awesome Young Living diffuser both at breakfast and dinner to help us all with our allergies.
Lemon Oil – I use a drop of lemon oil in my juices, cooking or just in plain water to help give it an extra punch of flavor(make sure to use a glass container or the oil will break down the plastic).
Mood Elevation – The time when the kids come home from school and I’m trying to make dinner is pretty hectic. I diffuse Joy essential oil at this time to help keep us all in a good mood.
Bug Bites – Connor has gotten a few bug bites this summer that itched badly. I put a drop of lavender oil in my palm with some coconut oil and rubbed them on his skin, within 5 minutes he stopped complaining. (Just make sure there’s no open sore.)
I hope these help give you a few ideas of where to start with essential oils. They can be a bit overwhelming and you do want to be careful with them and use them sparingly, but they can make a tremendous impact on your life and health.
