Ever wonder why the Chex cereal box calls it Muddy Buddies? I put the question to my Facebook page and they seemed to think it had to do with where you live: north vs south…maybe it’s like Coke vs Pepsi? Puppy Chow vs Muddy Buddies? LOL

Easter Puppy Chow Recipe - This is THE perfect snack for Easter! My kids are totally addicted to it and beg for more. If you live in the north...I think you might call this Muddy Buddies....whatever you call it...it's good! It's also gluten free!

Easter Puppy Chow Recipe

There are so many different kinds of Chex mix these days which gives you soooo many choices when making a Puppy Chow recipe (or whatever you call it…I think I might just call it ‘crack’ because it’s sooo addictive!) I’m not quite sure what makes you want to shove all of it in your face…maybe the salty sweetness of it.

(My blogging friend, Lauren at Oh Honestly, suggested calling it “Bunny Chow”…why am I not that creative! LOL)

A couple weeks ago the cereal was ALL on sale so I grabbed a few different kinds and when I looked at the back of all the boxes…I saw TONS of different recipes for their “Muddy Buddies” mix.

I got to thinking that it might be fun to make a pastel-y looking one for Easter…and here’s what I came up with. I based this on the recipe on the back of the Vanilla Chex box. (Bonus – both Vanilla Chex and M&Ms are gluten free)

This recipe is based off the Muddy Buddies recipe on the back of the Vanilla Chex cereal box.
Ingredients
  • 1 box Vanilla Chex cereal
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1 cup white chocolate chips
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1 cup mini marshmallows
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 cup pastel M&Ms
Instructions
  1. Place the butter, vanilla and chocolate chips in a microwave safe bowl.
  2. Heat mixture for 1 minute on High then stir.
  3. Heat for another 30 seconds and stir again trying to make sure to get all the chunks out.
  4. If needed, you can do one more round at 30 seconds.
  5. In a large bowl, dump in the box of cereal and minimarshmallows.
  6. Pour buttered chocolate mixture over the top and stir.
  7. Place this mixture in a large baggie.
  8. Pour the powdered sugar into the baggie.
  9. Close the baggie and shake until everything is coated.
  10. Open the bag and dump in the M&Ms.
  11. Close the bag and shake again.
  12. Enjoy!

You should probably go ahead and divide it up into small snack baggies NOW so you don’t come back tomorrow and tell me you ate it all in one sitting and gained 5 lbs!

My friend Christina over at It’s a Keeper has like 4 more kinds of “puppy chow” recipes you should check out too!
