We gave in to peer pressure this year and bought the silly Elf on the Shelf. We’d been hearing about it for a few years, but now that Connor is in Kindergarten (and wicked mean most afternoons) we were willing to do anything to survive the next month!
The trick with the elf is to remember to move it each day…really that’s SUPER hard to do and ours has only been here a few days!
We decided to have him appear on Thanksgiving and leave on Christmas Eve. I know…that’s a seriously long time, but really we were desperate!
The first day he appeared with the book and we spent some tense moments trying to agree on a name and learned the ONE rule for him…DO NOT TOUCH HIM.
We decided on Jingle Jack (since Connor’s been interested in The Magic Tree House books recently).
The next morning Jack appeared in the light above the kitchen table…pointing right at Connor’s seat so he could watch him.
The next morning Jack appeared riding a stuffed otter. Luckily Jack appeared up high enough that he didn’t get touched because Connor really wanted that otter.
Then Jack appeared in a marshmallow bath sitting on top of the fish tank. They thought this was funny.
But this morning it appears that the fun is over. The Lego men don’t like Jack getting all the attention so they tied him up.
I’m not sure if my kids really believe in this whole “he’ll tell Santa if you’re naughty” thing or not. They only seem mildly interested in the Elf, so it’s hard to tell.
