Last year when Connor was in Kindergarten, they incorporated a program into the day where the kids had to review the Fry List of words each day. (Fry’s word lists are the most commonly used words in the English language. So theoretically, if they can read these words, they can read most anything.)
Connor just had a sheet in his folder with the 100 words in alphabetical order. He had to practice them each day. When the teacher tested him, if he could read them all correctly in under 2 minutes, then he got to move on to the next list.
He did great and his reading REALLY improved with this strategy.
I thought that I’d put together some Fry list flashcards for you to review with your child.
Fry List Words 1-100
These flashcards are just the first 100 words. There are 10 lists (so 1000 words I believe…I’ll have to double check).
These flashcards are put together in 10 word groups. You can print out 1 page (10 words), have the child color the letters while saying the word, cut apart the flashcards and then you have them to review daily.
