Today we had a good day.
Maddi showed lots of personality and silliness and only a bit of her scary side today.
We started out with a bath. We’ve had her for 5 days and have yet to get her fully submerged in water for more than 10 seconds (although the paperwork from the orphanage said she loved baths…it also said she took formula…she won’t drink anything but water!).
Everyone thought I was crazy for packing this inflatable tub, but it came in handy today. I let her play in it for a few minutes. Then I put it in front of the full length mirror in the hall and put her in.
She screamed and cried a bit, but we muscled through…and she smells much better now!
We had been struggling with her ostomy care, but after speaking with the nurse…and sticking with the bag instead of the double diaper like the orphanage had been doing, we feel like we had that under control today too.
After the bath, she laid down for a nap around 10am…and didn’t wake up until 1pm!
We were able to pack and get ready for our flight tomorrow and everyone felt better when she got up.
Since I hadn’t felt well the day before, we didn’t want to chance things by going out to lunch so we went to the hotel next door for a bowl of noodles.
Maddi smiled and giggled and waved to everyone.
She likes to make faces and do funky things with her eyes too. Today she started doing something that we called her demon look. It’s creepy…and she thinks it’s fun to do it repeatedly.
We took a walk around the nearby park and then came back to the room. She was having fun coloring on paper and touching every thing in the room….full on toddler mode.
We had very few fits today and everyone was in a generally happy mood after having a break this morning!
Our whole travel group…minus one family…met in the lobby for a group photo. We will be meeting up with other families tomorrow in Guangzhou, but these were the ones here in Henan with us.
Ironically…there are only 2 girls in the group and both are going to Austin! It will be good to have support nearby!
We put Maddi to bed at 6:30pm since she’d been up since 1pm…we’re hoping that since we have to get up early that this plan works!
Tomorrow is the last leg of this trip before we head home. Guangzhou is supposed to be much more fun…more kid friendly and fun shopping places!
