The other day I watched Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead. Joe Cross realizes that his lifestyle is killing him and he needs to make a drastic change. He decides to do a 60 day juice fast. Then a 90 day plant based diet to “reboot” his system. And it works! He loses massive weight, gets off all his meds and basically turns his whole life around.

I admit the idea of “juicing” has crossed my mind many times over the past 5 years. But now that I’ve REALLY got to do something to get my health back, it jumped to the front.

I’ve had smoothies daily for the last two years, but I really just use fruit and I know that I really need to get more vegetables in. This green juice recipe is actually pretty good and full of nutrients to get me back on track.

I spent some time researching juicers first. What Joe recommends, as do most people is the Breville.

But when I went to get it, the sales lady told me that she had demo-ed that one and it just didn’t do a good job for what I really am going to be using it for – greens. Plus she thought it was a pain to clean.

So I ended up going with the Omega 8004 masticating juicer. It takes a bit longer to work, but it really does get ALL the juice out of the pulp (making a much healthier juice). It’s also SUPER easy to clean which was pretty high on my list of needs.

And even though I spent a bit more than I had planned, I figured it was worth it not to have to go out and buy another one in a year.

I’ve jokingly called this juice the “Costco Special” because these were the things I found there.

Be sure and clean every thing and cut it into chunks that will fit in your juicer.

3 stalks of celery

1/2 long English cucumber

1 apple pear (never heard of it, but it tasted good)

6 handfuls of greens (I think kale leaves would have been easier, but the bag of greens was more versatile)

1/2 lemon, peeled

This made about 16 ounces of juice and totally filled me up.

What’s in your favorite juice?
