It is TORTURE to take your kids to the store with you.
I have always said that I think that grocery stores should hand each person that comes in to their store with a child…a bottle of wine. They would ensure my loyalty that way!
I always get the big cart…so everyone has a seat…and threaten to strap them in if they act up. That doesn’t really help. They jump off and on screaming, “STOP THE TRAIN!” knocking random products off the shelf in their “game”.
And I always end up spending WAY more because I’m trying to bribe them into being good.
My friend, Kristen at Mommy in Sports, was dealing with her own personal shopping drama and asked if I had anything to help. That’s when I got the idea for these free printable grocery cart bingo game and grocery store scavenger hunt.
Grocery Cart Bingo
The idea of grocery cart bingo is that it’s like a scavenger hunt through the grocery store (but for younger kids).
You give your child a copy of the bingo card and a pencil. Each time they find one of the pictured items…they mark it off. The first one to get a five in a row…or cover the entire card depending on how much time you need…wins. You may want to have a special snack in your purse (or buy a small treat) so that you can give the winner their prize.
We haven’t gotten a chance to play yet…I got *lucky* and went to the store ALONE at 7:30pm on Sunday night while they were in bed…but I’m guessing my kids will love this.
It’s also a great way to talk about where you find the different items and how the store is laid out (i.e.- dairy, meat, fruits and veggies…).

Grocery Store Scavenger Hunt
This one is more of a scavenger hunt for older kids. They’ll need to be identify the different categories of food and write the names of the items to do this one.
