So I’m one of those people that totally LOVE all those home organization binders and notebooks and have tons and ton of them…all with 3 or 4 pages filled out and then…
NOTHING.
I have no follow through.
So I tried to figure why that is…maybe it’s because I keep losing the notebooks (or more likely a small child picks it up and colors in it and hides it.)
Then I discovered Evernote…and the skies opened for me!
I can access it from anywhere and…
THE KIDS CAN’T FIND IT!
I thought I’d share some of my ideas and resources to help you get a little more organized too.
Home Organization using Evernote
Step 1: Sign up for Evernote’s free account.
Step 2: Create a Notebook called Home.
Step 3: Right click on the Home notebook and click Add to Stack and then New Stack. This will give you a new top level category to keep all of you note books in. You will need to rename the new one Home and the Home one House.
Step 4: Then go up to File at the top and click Add a New Notebook. Do this for all the people in your family, bills, weekly/monthly/quarterly cleaning lists…basically anything you’d like to have different Notes about.
Step 5: Click on one of your new Notebooks and then click New Note at the top. This will allow you to create different Notes within each Notebook. You can also create checklists by clicking the box on the top right that has a check in it. Then when you complete things you can just check them off.
There are sooooo many options that you can do to with Evernote. It will change your life…I promise!
Also be sure to download the webclipper to your your browser. This will allow you to save webpages and put them right into whatever notebook you like in Evernote so you can go back and read it when you have time.
You can add audio notes too(I do this in the car if I see something I want to remember). You can also add photos. I had a list of presents Maddi received at her shower and put the picture in my Maddi notebook so I didn’t have to worry about keeping track of that paper.
I started with this Kindle book by Dominic Wolff, Master Getting Things Done the David Allen Way with Evernote. Getting Things Done is an organization system that many people swear have changed their lives and made them much more productive and happier. This short Kindle book gives you an overview of the system and shows you how to use Evernote to incorporate the Getting Things Done techniques into an online format.
I would also recommend that you use a scanner, like this VuPoint Portable Scanner. A Scanner will help you declutter by putting all those papers you have no idea what to do with into an Evernote notebook and off your desk.
I hope this gives you some ideas of how useful Evernote can be…and since it’s FREE you just can’t beat it!
