Checklists give the student a feeling of control over his day

Organization may not be something I’m necessarily super strong at, but I sure give it a try(for a few days at least). We started homeschooling about 3 months ago and I feel like it’s gone VERY well. Connor has shown great progress in this time and since he’s only 4 we’re really just laying the foundation for next year when we really need to add in more work.

My goals for now are to just get him used to doing work and not complaining the entire time. Karma likes to be funny though and has given me the kid that drove me the most crazy when I was a teacher…the smart kid who doesn’t try. If you don’t know how to do something and you actually give it a try, then I’m more than happy to help. BUT…if you give it half a try and then whine that you can’t do it, we’ve got big trouble!

To try and combat this daily headbanging that I do, I came up with a Homeschool Planner Checklist. I list out everything that I want him to do each day (we only do 4 days a week) and then I let him choose what he wants to do first. We still have some crabbing, but I added in things like “play a game” or “computer time” so that he knows that school can be fun as well as work. I’m one of those people that believe that you do the hard stuff first so that you have something to look forward to, but of course he picks play a game first. We eventually get it all done though and it doesn’t really matter the order that it happens in.

I thought I’d share it here in case it might help you too! Click —>  Homeschool Planner Checklist

I will be sharing some of the curriculum that I’ve chosen too over the next few weeks. Feel free to ask questions about any of it!
