Today started off pretty well. We were able to Skype with Dave and the boys. Maddi and Dave were making faces back and forth and she even blew a few kisses to him.
We went to check out the mall and I let her down to walk a bit. She holds my hand the entire time and never tries to run off.
She’s so little that it almost surprises you to see someone her size walking. The more surprising thing is to see the mouth full of teeth in such a small mouth. It’s kind of like those fish that have teeth…it just catches you off guard.
Another thing that catches you off guard here in China is the random sayings on things…
We gave her two short naps today in the room and then in the afternoon went to check out a local park.
It was a such a pretty peaceful place in the middle of this crazy city. We’ll definitely go back. Although it is risky to walk any where here because the sidewalks have been taken over by electric scooters. One of the moms with us got clipped by a scooter while walking the other day. It ripped her pants and left a big bruise.
We had to meet our guide back at the hotel at 4pm and this is where the story of today takes a rough turn.
I had to look over a bunch of paperwork to make sure it was all correct (which is wasn’t) so I handed Maddi off to Nora. She flipped out and started screaming. Nora took her down the hall to the room and she continued to scream.
I finally got done and came to get her and she started to cry when she saw me. Nora set her down and she toddled over while screaming.
From this time on…she refused to go into the hotel room. If I put even one toe in while holding her she screamed her head off. And when I say “screamed her head off” I’m being kind.
This child can scream and throw a fit like no body’s business. She makes her wants known and if you don’t do what she wants…WOW are you in trouble! But I guess in an orphanage…that’s what you have to do to thrive.
After dinner, she continued to scream if we went in the room. I walked her up and down the hallway for 1.5 hours and by then we both were crying. I finally just went in the room and let her scream.
Nora started reading celebrity news aloud and that seemed to bore her enough to realize she was tired and she finally passed out.
Every muscle in my body hurts!
Hopefully that was just a small bump in the road…we’re stuck in this hotel until Sunday…and life could get seriously rough if we can’t go in the room until then.
