A few weeks ago I ran across a recipe for a cherry simple syrup to make cherry limeades. (Check out what Evan thinks of limeades here.)
It sounded really good…esp since I’m a Sonic addict!
We had some guests coming over to watch fireworks for the 4th of July so I thought I’d get creative and make cherry limeade jello (didn’t work which is why there’s no recipe for it here…but I’ll let ya know if I try again!)
The recipe called for fresh cherries to be boiled. I realized at this point that my kids had never had a cherry (bad mom) so off we went to the store.
We have this great little hand held cherry pitter that makes the entire process very easy even a 3 and 5 yr old can do it!
How to Pit a Cherry
1. Take off stem.
2. Wash cherries.
3. Place in the pitter one at a time.
4. Squeeze…supposedly the pit will pop out the bottom of the cherry into the catcher cup.
5. If the pit doesn’t pop out just squeeze a little and it will pop out.
6. Your hands will be stained…but don’t worry it’ll come off…in a few days! LOL
7. Enjoy
My kids love strawberries and I thought they’d enjoy cherries too…but not so much. They will eat them, so they don’t hate them, but they aren’t going to request them.
But they do want to play with the pitter some more…so it was a good experience.
Do your kids like fresh cherries?
