Last week I shared how I used my brand new dehydrator to make kale chips. This week we made dehydrated apple chips and they were GOOD!
Dehydrated Apple Chips
I wasn’t quite sure how to cut the apples to make these, but one of my favorite salads at Panera bread has these dehydrated apple chips in it and they’re amazing.
So I just took the stem off, laid the apple on it’s side and started to slice. I had to go pretty thin and it really wasn’t as hard as you might think.
Then I dipped them in a bowl of lemon juice and put them on the dehydrator tray. I also sprinkled some cinnamon on half of them to give them a different zing.
I turned the dehydrator to 155 for 2 hours and then turned it down to 135 for the rest of the time.
I don’t want to say exactly how long it took because it just depends on how chewy you like them, but 4-6 hours is probably good.
They are so delicious and super pretty too. I feel so much better about the snacks I’m giving the kids since I know exactly what’s in them.
We’ve dehydrated red and green apples, bananas, mango, strawberries and have some fresh pineapple in there right now.
Kids in the Kitchen
Did you have fun in the “kitchen” this week? Did you try a new food or a new kid friendly restaurant? Did your littlest ones use their snacks to count to 10? We invite you to share your experiences, photos, stories or recipes that include your #kidsinthekitchen. Come join me and my co-hosts Melinda at Look What Mom Found, Paula at Frosted Fingers and Sara at Sensibly Sara, each week linking up a post, new or old, that feature the theme Kids in the Kitchen. It doesn’t matter what you are doing as long as you are doing it together, enjoying it and learning something along the way.
- preparing healthy snacks
