You might have noticed that I’m loving my new juicer (Fruit Leather and Sweet Potato Pancakes ) . I thought that I could use it to make some fun snacks for the kids too. But since they’ve still refused to even try the juice in it’s natural form….I’ve had to get sneaky.

Homemade Fruit Chews

While looking around on Pinterest, I came across a post from Super Healthy Kids about Sun-Kissed Fruit Chews and I thought “I can do that!” I wasn’t quite sure of the gelatin part so I went looking around and found this recipe on Simple Bites.  I mixed the two and these are what I got.

So I found my Lego Man Molds and my Star Wars Molds and went to town.

This recipe is based off ones from SimpleBites.net and SuperHealthyKids.com
Ingredients
  • 1 container of strawberries
  • 3 lemons
  • 2 apples
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla
  • 1 Tbsp honey
  • 3 packets of gelatin
Instructions
  1. Juice all the fruit in the juicer.
  2. Put the juice, vanilla and honey in a pot on the stove on medium heat.
  3. Remove the pot just as the juice mixture begins to boil and whisk in the 3 packets of gelatin.
  4. Let sit for 1 min.
  5. Use a funnel to pour into the molds.
  6. Place trays in fridge for 2 hours.

My kids had some mixed reviews of these (one loved and two didn’t) so I’ll keep trying different amounts of honey and different fruits. I LOVED that I knew exactly what had gone into their snack!
