In one of my many crazed attempts to bribe my 5 year old to be good at home…I bought this ScienceWiz Rocks Science Kit.
HE LOVES IT!
The kit comes with an activity book and a bunch of…rocks!
He asks almost every night if we can work through the next activity in the book (there are close to 20 activities in it).
It came with a tray and example rocks for each kind of rock discussed. He takes it down and looks at it nightly. It’s really cool!
One of his favorite activities so far has been to make your own volcano.
They used an empty bottle and taped strips of newspaper around it to create the volcano.
Then they cut some more strips of newspaper and dipped them in a mixture of flour and water and covered their volcano base.
It took about a day for this to really dry and by then they were so excited to erupt it that they decided not to paint it.
Next they poured baking soda in the bottle and mixed vinegar, flour and food coloring to make the lava.
Finally they poured this mixture into the bottle and watched it go!
They thought it was awesome…and wanted to do it again! LOL
They decided to let the lava sit over night so they could see how it formed rocks…really a very cool kit!
Kids in the Kitchen
Did you have fun in the “kitchen” this week? Did you try a new food or a new kid friendly restaurant? Did your littlest ones use their snacks to count to 10? We invite you to share your experiences, photos, stories or recipes that include your #kidsinthekitchen. Come join me and my co-hosts Melinda at Look What Mom Found, Paula at Frosted Fingers and Sara at Sensibly Sara, each week linking up a post, new or old, that feature the theme Kids in the Kitchen. It doesn’t matter what you are doing as long as you are doing it together, enjoying it and learning something along the way.
- preparing healthy snacks
- having a tea party
- counting skills with m&ms
- pouring from measuring cups
