Last week our free printable was short “a” practice pages. So, naturally, this week we’ll be working on short e.
Short e can be a little difficult for some kids because of their pronunciation. Just be sure to really over enunciated the “ehh” when you’re sounding out the words so they don’t confuse it with short i.
Kindergarten Printables: Short E Practice
On this first one just print it out. Then review the pictures with your child and help them sound out the words. Then have them cut out the words and match them to the pictures – with as little help from you as possible. If they struggle, print it out the next day and have them try it again. I bet they do much better and feel more confident in their reading abilities the second time around.

Once they have mastered the words from the above page, print out this next fill in the blank page. They will need to read the entire sentence and then fill in the missing word. Then read the entire sentence again once it’s completed.
Re-reading is an important part of the process to help children gain confidence and fluency. With the above sheet we worked on decoding (sounding out and reading the words) and now we’re going to work on encoding (sounding out to write it) to help build those pathways in the brain.
