My youngest son turns 5 just 24 days after the cut off for Kindergarten here in TX. I know there are pros and cons to him not starting school yet (totally a topic for another post), but he’s really ready.
I thought that I’d work on some Kindergarten printables for him (and your little ones) to practice some of the basics of reading. He used my alphabet printables to reinforce letter identification, sounds and handwriting and now he’s ready to move on to short vowel words.
Kindergarten Printables: Short A
This first page we’re starting with all -at words so there is only one variable – the first consonant. These are also great for practicing scissor and glue skills.
Next we move on to more short a (or CVC) picture/word matching, but these have different beginning and ending sounds.
And our final short a practice printable is a fill in the blank. There is a picture to go with each sentence to give clues plus the boxes are the shapes of the words (one letter per box).
I’ll work on posting another set of these each week for the different vowels.
Be sure and check out my other printables and my Children’s Book Activites page for tons more activities.
