I hope you enjoyed our Week 1 Pirate Activities and Week 2 Dinosaur Activities.
Bug Activities
Craft Ideas
– Handprint Caterpillar – Here’s a cute tutorial for how to make a handprint caterpillar to go along with The Very Hungry Caterpillar.
– Paper Plate Crafts – Danielle’s Place has tons of ideas of paper plate insect crafts for kids. These will keep you busy just trying to decide what to do first!
– Rock Painting – Make your own insects! Find some great rocks and paint your favorite bug on it!
Snacks
– Ant Snack – Toddler Approved used carrots and apples to make a fun ant snack. She’s also got some book and craft ideas.
– Ladybug Snacks – Check out this picture on Pinterest. Someone used strawberries, blueberries, licorice and mini chocolate chips to make these.
– Petri Dish – This mom shares her Scientist birthday party ideas and the gummy worms in green jello in a petri dish would be right up our alley this week.
Outdoor Play
– Grow Your Own Butterflies – When you order this kit, you can then mail off for your own baby caterpillars to grow your own butterflies. This is super cool for your child to watch nature unfold in front of their eyes. And if you don’t want to wait…you can order the caterpillars here.
– Bug Hunt – This bug collector’s kit will help you keep the bugs you find in your backyard safe and healthy for a few days so you can observe them.
– Scavenger Hunt – You can also use this printable scavenger hunt list from Mrs. Bremer’s Class to search for specific bugs to collect.
Indoor Play
– Montessori Inspired Insect Unit – Every Star Is Different is quickly becoming one of my favorite sites for kids’ activities. This week I found tons of fun insect activities plus printables.
– Bug Printable Pack – And of course my go to site, 3 Dinosaurs, has a Bug Printable Pack with over 70 pages in it with activities for kids from 2-7.
– Spider Web – Check out how Hands On As We Grow used painter’s tape to make a doorway spider web and then threw crumpled up newspaper at it.
Field Trip
This week we’ll probably take a trip down to the Austin Nature and Science Center. Not only do they have different bugs, insects and arachnids that you can look at under microscopes, but they also have a dinosaur pit where you can dig for fossils ( since we talked about dinos last week).
Hopefully all these fun bug activities will give you hours of play.
