I hope you enjoyed our Week 1 Pirate Activities , Week 2 Dinosaur Activities and Week 3 Bug Activities. The kids and I are having fun exploring and playing – and they don’t know they’re learning!
Wild West Activities
Craft Ideas
Toilet Paper Cowboy – DLTK has a cowboy template you can print out and glue to an empty toilet paper roll. You could do a bunch of these and have a whole town!
DIY Stick Horse – These stick horses are a little more involved than your average paper one, but these are beautiful and you’re child will enjoy the process of making them together.
Handprint Horses – These are super cute…plus the popsicle stick fence makes it look like a real hose farm.
Snacks
Campfire Cupcakes – Great Fun 4 Kids Blog has a whole post on a Wild West themed party, but my favorite is definitely the campfire cupcakes. You’ve got to check these out!
Cowboy Cookies – These cookie cutters will help you make your own Wild West shaped treats. Try this gluten free cut out cookie recipe from Momables.
Trail Mix – Against All Grain has a yummy gluten free trail mix that’s a great snack for your little buckaroos.
Outdoor Play
Panning for Gold – This is a super fun activity. It does require a bit of prep work (painting the rocks gold and putting holes in a pie pan), but I’m guessing it would keep the kids busy for hours!
Horse Races – Use the stick horses you made to have horse races in the back yard.
Cowboy Games – Better Party Ideas has a few outdoor game ideas – Cactus Hoopla and Pass the Rattlesnake – that might be fun.
Indoor Play
Cowboy Printables Pack – Home School Creations has some great cowboy week ideas as well as a great printable pack.
Wild West Mega Pack – 123 Homeschool 4 Me has a HUGE free printable pack that will help your child practice lots of skills while still maintaining the theme.
Wanted Poster – Mrs. Williams Kinders has a cute printable wanted poster that your kids will have fun deciding what everyone in the family is “wanted” for.
Field Trip
A couple of months ago I saw a Groupon (or was it Living Social) deal for a Wild West adventure park just northwest of San Antonio called Enchanted Springs. I jumped on it, esp since the boys are so into pretending to be cowboys that Connor took horseback riding lessons for a year. We haven’t gotten a chance to go yet (it’s a couple hours drive away and I’m not brave enough to take 3 kids). But hopefully we’ll do it this summer.
Hopefully all these fun bug activities will give you hours of play.
