I love sweet tea! I mean like…LOVE! But I’m really working to get my blood sugars under control naturally…which means I need to really cut back on the sugars.
Yes, I know honey still has sugar, but it doesn’t raise your blood sugar as much as sugar. And by making a simple syrup with it, it goes a bit further.
Orange Infused Honey Simple Syrup
This recipe is sooooo easy to make! My biggest problem is that I use it in everything now and run out quickly.
I am super lucky to have a friend who is a beekeeper. I can get raw local honey whenever I like. If you’re in the Austin area, be sure and contact Holly’s Honey for your honey. And if not, check out the Honey Locator or your local Farmers Market to find some.
My favorite ways to use it right now are to make sweet tea and to use it as the sweetener for my homemade yogurt!
Ingredients
- 1 cup of honey
- 1 cup of water
- 1 orange
Instructions
- Place the honey and water into a pot over low heat.
- Stir continuously for about 3 minutes or until the honey completely dissolves.
- Remove from heat and place into a glass jar.
- Use a zester to remove the peel of a clean orange.
- Place peel into honey simple syrup.
- Cover with lid and store in the refrigerator for up to 3 months.
I used this lemon zester with channel knife to get the peel off the orange. It worked perfectly!
Have you made a simple syrup before?
