My kids are just slightly addicted the iPad.

We are constantly looking for it (because they’ve set it down somewhere and walked off) or finding it completely out of charge….and there are quite a few fights over who gets to use it next.

A couple of years ago, I wrote a post about our Top 3 Most Used Apps and I thought it might be time to update that list now that the boys are getting older.

There are so many apps to choose from, and many of them are NOT appropriate for little kids. I thought it would be helpful to write up a list of our favorite iPad games for kids so you could check them out too!

Our Favorite iPad Games for Kids - the top apps for PK-2nd graders

iPad Games for Kids

Minecraft – OK, pretty sure this one is a given…although I’m a little concerned because my kids just like to kill things while playing it. I’m trying hard to believe that they’re also learning to be creative and see things differently.

Hooked on Phonics – My 5 year old calls this app his “work” and begs to do it each night. It has 12 levels that they work through and he’s really doing so much better at sounding out words.

Star Wars Angry Birds – They were absolutely obsessed with this one in the Fall. It has so many levels and it quite addictive (ok I wanted to play it too). You can buy little actual physical Angry Bird guys that have QR codes on their bottom. These allow the kids to add these guys to the game and play in real life too.

Netflix – This is by far the most consistently used app in the house (and the only one to make both our list from 2 yrs ago and today). We watch tons of movies and our only complaint is that only 2 devices can use it at the same time (loads of sick days lately for all of us).

Clumsy Ninja – Connor discovered this one from a classmate at school. I’m not quite sure what the point is, but it’s really pretty and he seems to think it’s a funny game.

Minion Rush – This is their current favorite iPad game. They ask to play this AT ALL TIMES. They are obsessed. They now watch Despicable Me daily and and talk in Minion speak (which is better than the JarJar Binks speak they usually use).

I hope this helps you find some appropriate iPad games for your kids. There are so many options out there, so this list will give you a great starting point.

Also, if you haven’t checked lately…there are some great deals on iPads on Amazon right now! We have an iPad mini and it’s the perfect size for little hands.

What’s your kid’s favorite app these days?
