I’m pretty sure that without peanut butter and jelly…I wouldn’t be alive today.
I pretty much had one every day of my life for the first 20 years I’d guess.
And now…my 5 year old is the same way. He eats one every day for lunch…and would probably eat them for breakfast and dinner if I’d let him.
And although they do have some nutritional value…it’s probably not the highest.
Adjustments
I’ve made a few adjustments to the basic PB&J so that it’s at least a little healthier.
I use JIF Natural peanut butter and I’ve just discovered Smucker’s Natural Fruit Concord Grape Spread.
This new fruit spread is made from quality ingredients…in fact the label lists only 5 ingredients…and 2 of them are grape..they are all natural and have no preservatives!
They come in four yummy flavors: Strawberry, Red Rasberry. Orange Marmalade and Concord Grape so no matter your favorite….they’ve got you covered!
I also like that their website has some fun recipes to try using these new natural fruit spreads.
My kids love couscous…so I thought this one might be a hit.
- 1 (10 oz.) package original plain couscous
- 2 cups chicken broth
- 5 tablespoons Crisco® Pure Olive Oil, divided
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup Smucker’s® Natural Strawberry Fruit Spread
- 3 tablespoons balsamic vinegar
- 1 cup thinly sliced fresh strawberries
- 1/4 cup finely chopped fresh mint leaves
- 1/2 cup crumbled feta cheese
- PREPARE couscous mix according to package directions, using chicken broth, 1 tablespoon olive oil and salt. Place in large bowl; fluff with fork.
- WHISK fruit spread, 1/4 cup olive oil and vinegar until blended. Pour over couscous. Stir until evenly blended. Cool at least 15 minutes. Fold in strawberries and mint just before serving. Sprinkle with cheese.
What flavor of fruit spread do your kids like best?
