On September 6th on CBS at 8pm ET a new 2 hour documentary called TEACH will be kicking off a yearlong campaign sharing the stories of four inspiring teachers to encourage people to consider going into the education field as a career.
When I got the chance to participate in this campaign, I jumped at it.
My Teaching Career
As a former teacher, I had a 14 year career in public education. I taught everyone from 3-18 year olds in those years and developed long standing relationships, that I still cherish today, with many parents and students.
I’m not going to lie, being a teacher was HARD work, but I felt I was at my best there.
I spent the first 7 years of my career working with students with hearing impairments. I loved those kids, but I always felt that I wasn’t quite where I was supposed to be.
Then I switched to regular education. I started teaching First Grade and that was when I felt the “click.” I KNEW I had found where I was meant to be and where I could do the most good.
I also knew I was lucky…my job was my hobby…and I loved it! Not many people are lucky enough to find that in their lifetime.
I remember when I was in Fifth Grade. I had a teacher that I KNOW felt the same way and I loved her.
At 18, when I decided to become a teacher, I knew that I wanted to be to my students what my Fifth Grade teacher had been to me.

It follows four teachers from across the country through the ups and downs of one entire school year.
