Virtual Book Club for Kids
It’s time again to link up with Toddler Approved for the Virtual Book Club for Kids. This month the author is Julia Donaldson.
I had no idea who Julia Donaldson was before this, but I soon learned that I already own a Julia Donaldson book…Room on the Broomis one of our favorite Halloween books.
So I went online to our local library and requested a few books. We found The Snail and the Whale, A Gold Star for Zog and What The Ladybird Heard. But I think our favorite was The Gruffalo.
The Gruffalo
Some of the forest animals invite Mouse to come to their homes for “dinner”, but he says he can’t because he’s meeting a Gruffalo…a big scary beast that he made up. Then he meets a real Gruffalo…who wants to eat him. And Mouse out smarts him too!
Most of Julia Donaldson’s books are written in rhyme, which appeals to young children…and adults! There’s always some kind of twist at the end where everything turns out well for all the characters.
They are sweet little books that are fun to read over and over. (I think we read each book at least 3 times a day in the last week.)
Easy Reader
Connor has been working on learning to read and is really doing well…as long as the book doesn’t have too many words or look too overwhelming.
I wanted him to be able to read The Gruffalo, so I thought I’d make my own easy reader based on the book. I went to www.gruffalo.com and found some really cool activities as well as images to help me with this little project.
I hope you enjoy it as much as we have! (Use the bar on the side to scroll through the entire book or the link at the bottom to download it.)
What’s your favorite Julia Donaldson book?
