Lots of people tell me all the time that they don’t know how I do all that I do.
But most of the time I feel like I waste a lot of time (playing on FB) and am nowhere near as productive as I should be.
I was actually doing really well right before I took Maddi to CO for her testing, but when we got home…it was all gone and I felt like I was starting over from square one with my motivation.
For me, these times take immersing my self in self-help books to get my mojo back. I LOVE to listen to books and by listening (as opposed to reading them) I can consume large quantities each month.
Recently I came across a book called The Miracle Morning by Hal Elrod…and it’s changed my life.
The Miracle Morning
Hal has a really interesting story (you can read about it here) and has pulled himself back from rock bottom twice.
His plan, The Miracle Morning, gives you specific steps to take to change your life tomorrow.
He recommends getting up an hour earlier than normal…which for me this past week has meant 5am!
During this extra time you are to focus on specific things he calls the Life S.A.V.E.R.S.”
S = Silence (spend some time in the quiet)
A = Affirmations (this can help you set your new beliefs into your subconscious)
V = Visualizations (if you can see it, you can do it)
E = Exercise (get it in before you have a chance to dread it)
R = Reading (spend time learning)
S = Scribing (spend time writing/journaling)
For me, fitting in exercise has been a MASSIVE struggle. So just getting right up and doing it means I don’t have to figure out when to fit it in or worry about not doing it for the rest of the day. I also listen to books on tape (or Hal’s podcast) while I walk on the treadmill so I’m killing two birds at the same time.
I then write out my affirmations (combining scribing and affirmations) and spend about 60 seconds visualizing (need to work on this) and figure this will have to count as my silence for now. I have to jump in the shower and be downstairs by 6:15am so that Dave can get in and I can get Connor ready to leave by 7am.
I’ve spent the past week going through these exercises each morning and I feel so much more productive and in control. I’ve walked on the treadmill almost everyday and feel like I’m making a little progress each day.
The key to long term change is really just taking baby steps each day. Each day I’ve had at least one amazing idea that will make a difference in my life. I think I’ve just opened up space in my head by getting some of the negative thoughts out.
I no longer have to beat myself up for not exercising.
Hal recommends that you have a new focus for each 30 days you go through the process…pretty sure this first stretch is just being ok with getting up before the crack of dawn!
Check out The Miracle Morning and I promise it will change your life too!
Do you struggle with getting up in the morning?
