Three Sisters by Susan Mallery was a very enjoyable book.
I was able to relate to all three of the women in the book in one way or another. I looked forward to getting back into the story each time I was able to and finding out how each of their stories unfolded…and of course, how they came together.
Andi, a pediatrician (whose mother thinks she hasn’t lived up to the family standards by being one), was left at the alter by her not so nice boyfriend. She realizes, as the story progresses, that over their 10 yr relationship, he was always trying to change her. She moves to the island to start over. She starts seeing the contractor remodeling her house, but they both have some trust issues that almost doom the relationship.
Deanna is the perfect mom and wife and this constant need for perfection is tearing her apart and pushing her family away. She has such a severe need to control her life that when it all starts to unravel, she has no idea why. I found it very interesting to watch her come out of her comfort zone and begin to bond with her new friends and family. It made me think that maybe I’ve judged some of those “perfect” moms I see…maybe we are all dealing with things the best we can.
Boston is trying to recover from the death of her son. Having lost two pregnancies, I could probably relate with her the most. She and her husband have dealt with the grief in two very different ways and it’s hard for each to understand the other. Grief is a tricky thing…you can run, but you can’t hide.
I will definitely look for other books by this author.
