I admit…I’m a self help book junkie. If I wonder about something…I Google it. And then I usually head to Amazon or the book store to find out more about it.

I rarely read books any more, but instead I listen to them. I can go through 2-4 books each month this way. I’ve been doing this for about 3 years now and actually feel extremely unproductive when I’m not listening to something. It does take some time to get used to, but believe me…it will make cleaning the house MUCH more enjoyable.

I thought I would share some of the best parenting books I’ve either already read or are in my queue to go next.

Best Parenting Books

The Gifts of Imperfection – I think this is one of those books everyone should read…parent or not. This book will help you get in touch and embrace your true self so that you can be the parent you really want to be and model living an authentic life.

The Happiest Baby on the Block – This was such a help when we had our first child. It’s probably the one book they should give every new parent at the hospital. It will give you tips and tricks to help you survive those first few rough months.

Siblings Without Rivalry  – This is the book they should give every parent at the hospital when they have their second child. It helps you set up your children to be allies instead of competitors and reminds you that being “fair” isn’t always right. I think this one should be read yearly.

The Five Love Languages of Children – This one is in my queue right now. “Love Languages” are how people interpret love. Your child may not interpret loving acts the way you mean them. This can help you figure out how your child needs to be loved and parented…and it may not be how you are currently parenting.

Parenting Without Stress – I’ve been following Dr. Marvin Marshall for many years. His ideas on discipline and responsibility helped me in my classroom. Now I need this one (also currently in my queue) to help me foster responsibility in my children…without constantly bribing them (my current mode of operation). Maybe I need to read this one next! 🙂

I hope this list of my top 5 best parenting books helps you find a direction, no matter where you are in your parenting journey, to becoming the parent you see in your mind’s eye. My friend Kristen over at MommyinSports.com posted her top 5 too! Check it out!

Do you have any other books you’d recommend that I haven’t listed?
