This is another Pinterest find!
This lady shows how to use gel medium, which I found at Hobby Lobby, to transfer a picture to a piece of wood. Check it out!
So I thought, “That looks easy enough. I’ll give it a try!”
I found a 9″ x 12″ piece of wood, some gel medium, a foam brush and a picture I printed out. (She says to use laser printer, but other sites say use an ink jet. I used inkjet.)
First, I sanded the wood. Next, I applied the gel medium. Then I put the picture on and smoothed it out.
Here’s where I ran into my first problem. I think I put too much gel medium on and some of it came out and got on top of the picture (right on MY face). Nothing I could do, so I let it sit over night.
The next morning I wet the paper down and tried to rub off the paper. Where the gel medium had gotten on top of the paper, it was kind of difficult to get it off, but overall it was fairly simple to get the paper off. You have to re-wet the paper a few times, but that’s not a big deal.
My picture didn’t turn out so well though. I think because a)I got the gel medium on top of the picture and 2) you can see the wood grain through the picture. BOTH of those things happen to be on my head.
I tried again the next day with some word art that I printed in mirror format. This time I use too little gel medium and it totally didn’t work.
I am not going to give up on this project. I WILL get it to work even if I have to buy out Home Depot! (Next time I may try primer-ing/painting the wood first…I’ll let you know.)
If you try it out, let me know how your comes out!
