Today we hopped on a plane and flew to Zhengzhou. This is the capital of the Henan Province and where we will stay for the next week.
Let’s start today with the joys of going to the bathroom in China.
They have these toilets called squatty potties. You put your feet on either side and try not to pee on yourself. I have grudgingly used them three times so far and I’m not getting more comfortable with them.
This afternoon we took a trip to Walmart. It’s pretty much like an other Walmart in the world…just much stranger. They have loads of stuff but since it’s all in Chinese, we were all pretty grateful that our guide went with us.
We found some fun clothes…this sweatshirt says “Smile is Music.” Benson had to have it! LOL
Then we were ready to checkout. While standing in line I thought I’d see what kinds of candy they had. This stuff is NOT candy! You may need to look very closely to see exactly what it is!
All that shopping made us work up an appetite. We decided to try the local Pizza Hut! OMG it was packed! They told us it would be 20 min before we could be seated. So we attempted to place a to go order and that was REALLY difficult. We wanted 2 cheese pizzas, but that just wasn’t computing. Thankfully, we did end up with the right order after about 30 min of waiting.
The traffic here, in the streets and on the sidewalks is absolutely crazy. It’s kind of a look-out-for-yourself kind of thing. The roads are these massive 8 lanes across things and the sidewalks, although fairly large, are filled with these electric scooters. No one wears helmets and they pile 3-4 people on the.
Zhengzhou is considered a medium sized town…they only have 8 million people compared to Beijing’s 30 million (and only the 2nd largest city in China).
We had 3 more families join our group today and of the 8 families in our group…only 2 of us are adopting girls…the rest boys. I find that very surprising.
The other couple, who are also adopting a girl, live in Cedar Park…another suburb of Austin. I had no idea. What a small world!
Also today we got some more information on Maddi and her habits.
We will be meeting her by 11am on Monday morning…just a little over 12 hours from now! OMG!
The next post you see will be of our Gotcha Day!
